FedEx Corporation and International Medical Corps introduced innovative disaster response by redesigning the Emergency Field Hospital to create rapidly deployable medical assets and healthcare facilities to respond to international disasters more efficiently. There are four crucial areas FedEx focuses on its social core. Emergency and disaster aid are a core area wherein the company offers transport and logistics management to assist places to recuperate from disasters.

FedEx logistics experts worked with International Medical Corps to make the field hospital flexible to support types of disasters, such as various natural and infectious disease outbreaks, and much more. The field hospital is stored close to the FedEx World Hub in Memphis to enable the speedy deployment of the hospital following disasters.

Since the collaboration started, FedEx and the International Medical Corps have allowed health centres to conduct 290, 000 consultations and delivered 14, 700 hygiene kits to Puerto Ricans following Hurricane Maria. They provided 30, 000 lbs of shelters and personal protective equipment to the the Democratic Republic of the Congo to deal with patients, ensure health workers security, and help support 993, 000 Ebola screenings and providing continuing care to almost 4, 000 patients in Florida. Most notably, FedEx responds to the devastation brought on by Hurricane Dorian, the worst storm ever to hit the Bahamas. Together with International Medical Corps, the company sent components of the field hospital and equipment to the island of Grand Bahama by which an estimated 20,000 to 25, 000 individuals remained at that time. In the city of High Rock, the only health centre was utterly destroyed.

International Medical Corps set up a health facility which has been able to give outpatient medical services for the women, men, and kids in need. It was set following Dorian, and the health centre carries on to provide medical attention regularly. More than one million (Nov-2019) individuals have already received services from the collaboration between FedEx and the International Medical Corps. The company stated that “together, we’re better prepared to respond to disasters and are building community resiliency”.
